Kaspersky Installation Problem

Q)I am trying to replace AVG 8 with the free trial version of Kaspersky Internet Security. The first time I uninstalled it and tried installing Kaspersky it said that AVG 8 was still in my system. Then, I looked online to get the removal tool provided by AVG. When I did that and tried installing Kaspersky again, the same window comes up saying that I must uninstall AVG 8 before I can install Kaspersky. How can I resolve this issue?,this very own issue hit when i was kaspersky after removing AVG 8.0 from systembut i did'nt seem to work but i found a solution....

Sometimes installation of Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 2009 can be hindered by the “remains” of AVG8 in the system, although AVG8 was successfully removed and the system was restarted.
Prior to copying the installation files onto the hard drive, the Configuration Wizard checks the computer for third-party software incompatible with Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 2009. The records of AVG8 in the system registry are identified by the Wizard as a fully installed and functioning anti-virus AVG8 although the product has already been uninstalled. As a result the Configuration Wizard asks to manually uninstall the incompatible software and interrupts the installation.
To resolve the situation you should do the following:
Interrupt the current installation of Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 2009
download the archive avg8.zip
unpack all files from the archive avg8.zip into one folder
run the file KLeaner.exe
wait until the utility finishes its work
restart your PC
rerun installation of Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 2009

Well we have a windows counterpart to it

Vista has made strides in improving the Windows Explorer interface, but Windows has yet to integrate anything as dynamic as Cover Flow. With a free utility called Harmony, though, you can add Cover Flow-like browsing to Windows. Harmony works only with iTunes generated cover art, and it doesn’t integrate into Windows Explorer. Nevertheless, it’s a simple, free way to add a little Cover Flow-style action to your Windows Media Player experience.

For you purists avoiding extra programs, Microsoft has a weekend project to print folders from your context menu in XP or Vista. Top 10 Google Chrome Tips And Tricks

Improve your browsing experience with these tweaks

Since Google Chrome launched only a couple of weeks ago, it’s going to take web users a while to get used to the browser, and even longer to work out the tips and tweaks that will speed up and improve the experience. However, we’ve saved you the hard work and rounded up the 10 best tips and tweaks..

1. Surprisingly Handy Keyboard Shortcuts
Chrome offers some unique shortcuts that go beyond the typical CTRL and T for opening new browser tabs. The full list of Chrome shortcuts can be found here, but the three most unusual and unique to Chrome are:

CTRL and SHIFT and N
Automatically opens up a Chrome ‘incognito’ window which allows you to surf on a PC without leaving behind any digital footprints.

SHIFT and Escape
Allows for fast access to Chrome’s Task Manager utility that allows you to nix browser processes that have gone awry.

CTRL and SHIFT and T
Will open recently closed browser tabs.

2. Custom Searches
When you want to run a search directly from Google’s address bar , also known as the Omnibar, just type a question mark (?) followed by a keyword. The default search engine is Google. To change the default search engine to anything you want go right-click inside the address bar and select ‘Edit search engines’. You can choose from a predefined list, or create your own.

Here is how to create your own shortcut to search the site of your choice directly from Google Chrome’s address bar.

Right-click inside address bar and select ‘Edit search engines’.

With that dialog box remaining open, now go to a website you would like to create a custom search for. For the sake of example try Dictionary.com.

Once you visit the site now look at your ‘Search Engines’ configuration window and you’ll notice under the ‘Other search engines’ field Dictionary.com has been added.

Next you’ll want to change the ‘Keyword’ to something short and easy to remember such as DIC.

Now when you want to look up a word at Dictionary.com all you have to do is type in Chrome’s address book ‘DIC’ proceeded by the word you want to look up.

3. Everyone Loves An Easter Egg
Type ‘about:internets’ into the address bar and you’ll see a tribute to United States Senator Ted Stevens’ take on the internet. (This only works in Windows XP)

4. Larger Comment Boxes
Comment boxes on websites soliciting feedback can sometimes be way too small. With Chrome you simply click on the corner of any web-based comment field and stretch it out as large as you like.

5.No way to home

I appreciate Google Chrome’s minimalist approach to design that leaves the interface clutter-free. But without a Home button Chrome feels a bit like a house with no front door. To regain the Home button on your browser simply go to the wrench icon, select the Google Chrome Options, click on the Basics tab, and check the ‘Show Home button on the Toolbar’ box.

6. Fun With Tabs
Browser tabs are an incredibly useful feature in browsers today. Google has spent some time and made them even more useful by allowing more tab flexibility than is currently possible with IE or Firefox. Chrome allows you to peel browser tabs off a browser so they can become their own browser window. Chrome also allows you to take two separate Chrome browsers and drag them together creating one window with two tabs.

7. More Privacy Please
As privacy issues continue to swirl around Google new concerns have been raised regarding Google’s Chrome browser. According to reports Google’s auto-suggest (featured in the Chrome browser Omnibar) allows Google to know everything you type into it - even if you don’t hit enter.

To disable the auto-suggest feature right-click inside the Omnibar and un-check the ‘Use a suggestion service to help complete searches’.

8. Go Incognito On The Fly
Not sure what awaits you when you contemplate clicking on that link? If you want to make sure your web tracks are covered just right-click the link and select ‘Open link in incognito window’.

9. No Google Toolbar For Chrome, No Problem
Google Chrome doesn’t support the handy Google Toolbar. Available for IE and Firefox, the Google Toolbar brings much versatility to the browser including a shortcut to Gmail, access to online Google Bookmarks, a spell checker, and the ability to send URL links via email in just a few clicks.

Harry McCracken, explains on his Technologizer website that he has found a way to create an approximation to the Google Toolbar by tweaking Google Chrome with a technique he calls ‘Project Fakebar’. For those with idle time, visit the site and find out how to put a Fakebar on your Chrome Browser.

10. Enable Firefox To Run More Like Chrome
My last tip and tweak isn’t absolutely Chrome-centric, rather Chrome related. For those who like the innovative new features Chrome offers, but aren’t happy with some of the bugs, security, and privacy issues you can have your cake and eat it too.

How Do I Gain Administrator Access Without a Password?

Without an administrator-level account you can log onto, you can't install new software, edit the registry, or really maintain the PC in decent condition. Windows won't just tell you someone else's password, or let you change it to something you know, but there are ways.

. You'll need the Ultimate Boot CD for Windows. Downloading and preparing this great tool is a bit complex (see Six Downloadable Boot Discs That Could Save Your PC for more information), but it's well worth the effort. This is really one of the most useful tools around.

The program you want is Vadim Druzhin's NTPWEdit. Once you've booted the Ultimate, select Start, Programs, Password Tools, NTPWEdit. Vadim To change any account's password, simply click (Re)open, select an account, click Change Password, enter the password of your choice twice, click OK, Save changes, and Exit. Then reboot and enter the password.

Does the existence of such free software make you nervous? Relax. The program can't tell anyone what your current password is; just change it. No one is going to steal your account without you knowing it's been done

Cell Phone Thieves Beware

They say revenge is a dish best served cold. But when you want to even
the score with whoever just stole your cell phone, revenge is perhaps
most toothsome when served with an ear-splitting siren. Maverick Mobile's
soon-to-be-released software will let you inflict that comeuppance on
cell phone thieves--and retrieve your data while you're at it. If you
have loaded Maverick's software on the stolen phone, you can use
another phone to pull your contact data or other information off the
purloined handset. You can also wreak remote havoc in such ways as
hanging up on the thief's calls and setting off an alarm to alert
everyone nearby that the scoundrel has taken that which belongs to
another.

Primo Pdf

PrimoPDF 3 converts just about any file type to a PDF, using the
source program the file was created with and its print command. The
interface could be nicer; it's uncluttered but also uninteresting.
Previous versions required the user to go through the Save As menu. The
reason why the publisher changed it to Print isn't obvious. Regardless,
the conversion process is quick and efficient. Other changes include a
security feature, which allows the user to wrap the PDF in 40-bit or
128-bit encryption, PDF merging, and password protection. The user also
can restrict editing of the new PDF, leaving comments and making other
changes.

The program's size is surprisingly large for such an
unobtrusive app, and it's absolutely necessary to launch the read-me
file at the end of installation, since the application loads no icons
and leaves no other visible traces on your machine, except in the Start
menu's All Programs.

VIrtualization

It's great to have multiple computers. On the first of them, you can
install a database or crunch spreadsheets. On another, you can simply
browse the Web, listen to music, and check your e-mail. Yet another can
have a supercharged configuration for playing games. Sure, you could
have all of your programs on the same, single computer, but some
applications--such as games--can't run concurrently with other
programs.

Many businesses have a different problem: They need
to use applications that will run only on a specific operating system,
be it Windows Vista, XP, or 2000, or maybe Mac OS X or Linux. So they
maintain computers running different OSs around the office.Using
multiple PCs has several drawbacks, of course, such as the amount of
money they cost and the power and space they consume. You can always
install a second operating system to dual-boot with your existing OS,
but dual-booting requires repartitioning the hard disk, as well as
shutting down one operating system and its applications in order to use
the other.

Thanks to today's faster processors and capacious
memory and disk space, however, you can get many of the benefits of
using multiple, separate computers by adding virtualization software to a single PC.
Such software lets you install multiple OSs into virtual hard disks
that are really just files on your main hard drive. You can then launch
and run multiple guest operating systems simultaneously. The software
redirects access to key hardware devices on the host system, including
network adapters and optical drives. Although the virtualized operating
systems themselves are not always free, several excellent
virtualization utilities don't cost a cent.

VMWare's VMWare
Server and Sun Microsystems' VirtualBox come in multiple versions that
run under either Linux or Windows, allowing you to host either Linux or
Windows. Microsoft's Virtual PC 2007, not surprisingly, runs only under
Windows--but it does permit you to run Linux as a guest operating
system, surprisingly.

Other virtualization tools abound (notably, the Mac-based VMware Fusion and the multiplatform Parallels Desktop),
but for this story I'm going to focus on three excellent, free
virtualization apps as I guide you through the process of installing
and configuring multiple OSs on your Windows PC. You can run just about
any OS (except for Apple's, which is restricted to Mac hardware) in
your virtual machines, and you can run the virtualization software on
many different host operating systems. Virtualization is all about
expanding your options.

Actual Booster

I'm a sucker for any free utility that claims to speed up my PC, so I
risked hosing my PC and used Actual Booster for a month. (The things I
do for you...) Windows uses the Priority level to determine how much
CPU time an application gets (the default is "normal"). Actual Booster
automatically sets the priority level of the program you're using to
full blast. One thing to remember, though, is that when you're
multitasking, setting the priority to high on one application takes
processor time from the background apps. If you have a brand-new,
super-duper, quad-core PC, it also might not do much good. Yet on
slower PCs, and especially my dog-tired notebook, I can see a
difference. One downside: On some PCs, Actual Booster causes the mouse
to stumble.

Preserve Your E-Mail, With Online Backups

Are you an e-mail pack rat? If so, you’d probably be loath to lose your
archives. To avoid that disaster, try using one of two free backup
utilities designed expressly for e-mail: either Amic Email Backup, which copies everything—including your address book, account settings, and message rules—to a single compressed file; or MailStore Home, which duplicates all of your e-mail into a searchable archive and optionally backs it up to CDs or DVDs for offline storage.

Once you sign up for a free Gmail account, you can either configure
your mail account to forward all messages to Gmail or set up Gmail’s
Mail Fetcher to retrieve messages from your ISP’s POP3 server. Then
enable IMAP in Gmail and follow the configuration instructions for your
mail client to pick up messages from Google’s servers.

When
all that setup is done, your mail will go through Gmail, giving you
more than 6GB of storage space for messages and attachments, plus some
excellent spam filtering to boot. And you’ll have copies of all your
messages available on the Web. That’s not only an ideal e-mail backup,
but just plain handy, too.
